Located in the state of Uttarakhand, Badrinath is one of the four centres in the Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. Re-established in the 8th Century by Adi Shankaracharya, a philosopher and theologian as an important pilgrimage centre, the town gets its name from the ancient Badrinath temple located in it. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the Badrinath Temple houses a Shaligram (black stone)
